We are a church that is coming, not to be served, but to serve the city of Blue Springs

The church exists for the glory of God, the kingdom of God, and the mission of God. “We are not our own; we have been bought with a price” (1 Cor 6:19-20). Because we belong to Jesus, we exist to proclaim his glorious good news far and wide. Jesus commands us to “go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:18-20). This Great Commission is a mandate to make disciples and by necessity to plant churches. In fact, planting new churches is exactly the way the apostles obeyed the Great Commission.

Church planting was the primary New Testament strategy for extending God’s kingdom and fulfilling His missionary mandate of disciple making. The book of Acts depicts the spread of a church-planting movement throughout Asia and Europe. Almost all of Paul’s letters were written to new churches either he or someone else he knew had started.  The Apostles saw the expansion of new churches in the world as the pivotal cog through which the life transforming power of God would be transferred to the world.

Why Should The Avenue Plant This Church?

It’s part of our vision. Since day one of the Avenue we have sensed the call to plant churches. We didn’t just plant a church, we planted a church planting church. Now as we dream of revival throughout Kansas City, the Gospel must go out to all cities and neighborhoods within the metro area.  We are currently gathering in Independence, Missouri where we have established a church planting launch pad to raise up and send believers out to plant the Gospel.  This year God has given us a vision for Blue Springs, Missouri.  We believe that Blue Springs is an integral part of God’s mission for bringing light to the dark places within KC.

Blue Springs Is Ready

Blue Springs is seated east of downtown, right off of I-70, and is the missional gateway into other communities such as Grain Valley, Oak Grove, Lake Lotawana, and even out to Odessa, Missouri.  Blue Springs is a growing city that has grown from 7,000 to over 53,000 people in the last four decades.  Due to a great school system and a higher quality of life than many area cities provide, many families are still moving to Blue Springs and the population should continue to rise significantly in the next few years.  There are around 50 churches meeting in  Blue Springs, which means that every church would have to take in around 1,000 people in order to account for all of the city.  In the United States 9 out of 10 churches can’t even hold more than 350 attendees / members.  The need for church planting is real and present in this city!

Leadership & People Are In Place

Currently the Avenue has multiple Gospel Communities with people who are growing as worshippers in community while on God’s redemptive mission in Blue Springs.   Theses groups are thriving, growing, and learning what it looks liks to love their city well. These groups are the leaven that will grow and catalyse the Gospel across Blue Springs. We believe they will bring something new and exciting to Blue Springs. The Avenue’s DNA is a gospel-centered, theologically robust, disciple making ministry. From that springs a deep sense of growing as worshippers in all of life, while being committed to community and to missional living.  This process of growing churches through the establishment of Gospel Communities that plant new Gospel Communities and ultimately new churches gives every member a part in our ministry. All of our activity is part of seeing the gospel spread and lives changed!  It is through these groups being on mission in their geographical areas, engaging and loving the people of Blue Springs, that we will see the renewal that Jesus wants for this town!
