At The Avenue Church in Independence, MO, we believe it’s important for us as parents to raise our children in the way that they should go, so that when they grow old that they won’t depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)

Therefore our children’s ministry, Avenue Kids, is designed to complement the primary parental responsibility in ministering to your children. We do believe that both the church and the parents have a role in raising children to know and believe the gospel.

Vision for Avenue Kids

The vision for Avenue Kids has three parts. Avenue Kids exists to teach children to:

1. Experience the love of Christ, through hearing and knowing the gospel each week.
2. Equip them in the truths of who Jesus is, and what He’s done in the stories of the bible.
3. Exercise their growing relationship with Christ in everyday life through applicable exercises and having fun!

Curriculum & Care

We use The Gospel Class from Lifeway. It is simply the best curriculum we have found. The Gospel class utilizes the bible fully to present the powerful message of the gospel each week in a way that engages our children’s hearts and minds. Each Sunday we want to present powerful stories in the bible that instruct and encourage our children in God’s plan for their life. The Gospel Class includes age specific worship, and super fun activities as well as resources for parents to reinforce each weeks lessons at home.

Avenue Kids is available for babies through children in 5th grade during our 10:45am worship service. Our Avenue Kids program at 10:45 involves Musical worship, a Bible lesson, crafts, games and snacks, all of these led by Avenue church members who serve on a rotating schedule. As a policy, we run background checks on all who serve in our childcare areas and provide a safe and secure area. All youth 6th grade and older join the adults for worship service.

Serve Sunday

Every week we setup the classrooms and teach our kids about Jesus. How we do this is by utilizing a rotation based schedule we call “Serve Sunday.” In many churches 20% of the people volunteer to do 80% of the work, it’s called the 80/20 rule. We ask everyone who is able to join their Gospel Community to serve with their group every other month to help setup for services (since we are a mobile church) and take a turn in Avenue Kids together. This system allows us all to share with our friends and share the work of the church. We are SO thankful to all who serve faithfully each week. Because of your service unbelievers (our kids) are coming to know Christ and the gospel each week! May all of our “work” become “joyful work” because of the tremendous calling

The Avenue Kids ministry is led by a team of teachers dedicated to pouring into our kids.  For more information about Avenue Kids, please contact KADY MASON.
