Our family ministry at The Avenue is called "Avenue Kids"
At The Avenue Church in Independence, MO, we believe it’s important to raise children to know and experience God, and that our role as adults and parents is to equip them along the way.
Our children’s ministry, Avenue Kids, is designed to complement the primary parental responsibility in ministering to children. We believe that both the church and the parents have a role in raising children to know God.
Vision for our Children’s Ministry
The vision for Avenue Kids has three parts. Avenue Kids exists to teach children to:
1. Experience the love of Christ.
2. Equip them in the truths of who Jesus is, and what He’s done.
3. Exercise their growing relationship with Christ in everyday life.
Sunday School Classes at The Avenue Church
We have weekly classes for children in grades 5 & under at 9:30am on Sunday mornings. Our program, called “Avenue Kids Connected,” is led by committed teachers who disciple the children each week through Bible lessons, fun activities, snacks and games. At Avenue Kids Connected, children are taught fun, practical lessons among friends by teachers who know and love them. Children learn to know God and grow in community by someone other than mom and dad. Each teacher pours into the children by weekly discipling them, encouraging them through notes and cards, and connecting them with others through fun events and projects throughout the year.
We have a class for every child who attends Avenue Kids Connected at 9:30am on Sunday mornings. Our classes include:
Tugboats Class – Babies up to 2 years
MoPeds Class – 2 & 3 years
Trolleys Class – 4 & 5 years
Jets Class – 1st & 2nd grade
Rockets Class – 3rd, 4th & 5th grade
Childcare during 10:45 Worship Service
Childcare is available for babies through children in 1st grade during our 10:45am worship service at the Hilton Garden Inn. Childcare during 10:45 involves a Bible lesson, crafts, music, games and snacks led by Avenue church members who serve on a rotating schedule. As a policy, we run background checks on all who serve in our childcare areas and provide a safe and secure area.
Children in grades 1st and up join their parents for worship service. Younger children are also welcome, depending on each parent’s preference. Children see and experience how adults worship in “big” church. They also learn the value of worshiping together as a family. To help children joining us in worship service, we offer a children’s bulletin.
Kids at The Avenue LOVE "The Zoo!"
“The Zoo” Children’s Church Event
Four times each year, The Avenue Church hosts an all-kids gathering called “The Zoo.” All children ages 3 through grade 5 gather in the worship service area at 9:30am for a fun “kids church.” Each event is centered around a Biblical theme and involves silly songs, Bible lessons, a fun craft and yummy snacks. Parents and kids alike LOVE The Zoo!
The Avenue Kids ministry is led by a team of teachers dedicated to pouring into our kids. Christa Copenhaver leads our 9:30am teachers and Avenue staff member Carrie Steller helps coordinate the ministry. For more information about Avenue Kids, please contact Christa & Carrie.
