Pastor Orion and Jeff Class visited Joplin the week of the storm to make connections and shoot a vision video. While serving for two days in a sorting facility and in the disaster area.

Lee’s Summit Community Church, Open Range Fellowship and The Avenue have decided to send teams to Joplin as a way of partnering to serve Joplin.

A team of 8 from The Avenue spent Sunday- Tuesday May 29-31th in Joplin completing work orders for homeowners who had lost everything. Tasks included tarping roofs, cutting trees down, removing damaged fencing, sorting debris, finding family treasures and needed item in destroyed homes.

Jeff Class and Orion Berridge shared with the Heartland Pastors of Great Commission Churches about the need to serve Joplin.

Pastor Orion spoke to more than 500 hundred leaders at the GCC Pastors Conference about supporting our efforts in Joplin. Several churches have responded to PRAY, GIVE and SERVE with us!

Saturday 6/18/2011 a team of 9 people went to serve Mission Joplin. Jerry Mason led this team that also had people from LSCC and Epic Church!

The weekend of 6/25/2011 we coordinated another GCC church to serve Mission Joplin. This team of 20+ people from a New Mexico GCC church, and led by Pastor Nacho was a great blessing to Joplin providing much manpower to get some work done!

Saturday 7/9/2011 another team from The Avenue went to serve Mission Joplin.  This team of worked with local homeowners to make their home ready for construction and repair.

The week of August 15th, Jeff Class and Orion Berridge joined several other leaders from Great Commission Heartland churches to serve Joplin. The group helped the Joplin School District with their transportation and safety; ensuring that all students were picked up and dropped off at the right locations.

Saturday 8/20/2011 a team headed to Joplin from The Avenue to help with continued cleanup efforts. In addition to helping clean-up a home, they helped unload supplies for the Joplin School District.

We are currently planning more Saturday trips and coordinating many other GCC churches to join us SERVE JOPLIN! Please jump in and serve with us if you are able.

The Avenue has teamed up with Mission Joplin!

What a joy to be part of a community like The Avenue that lives beyond our own concerns and reaches out to help those in need! It has been great to hear from so many of you and your desire to help. We want to give some more information on how we The Avenue is responding to help Joplin. Our approach has three points of response, and we would like to ask everyone who can to join together in responding in the following ways.

3 Ways to Help

Pray- This is something we all can do. I have never seen such an amazing move of God’s people responding to help a city. It may sound cliche, but it is so true, that prayer is the best way we can help. God chooses to work through our prayers. So pray with us regularly.

Give- Many of you have already given. Thank you! The largest need is financial right now. There are so many items that can be purchased in neighboring towns and don’t have to be shipped. So please consider giving financially. We are supporting a local church that has been serving at the core of relief efforts. Through great expense of their own they have given their days, money and homes to serve and love the people of their city. Mystery Church is a great inspirtaion to us and we can only imagine that is how you would respond to devastation in this area. Give through The Avenue offerings, through Paypal on our web site or mail it in to our PO BOX 2213 Lees Summit, MO 64063. Just mark your donation “JOPLIN”. We will make sure all of it gets into use right away for hurtiung people.

Serve- We will be serving along side of A Church Called Mystery. We may also partner with Lee’s Summit Community Church and Open Range Fellowship and some of their connections in Joplin. This work will be hard and not glorious, much of it will be grunt work, cleaning up debris. But it will potentially be life changing for you. If you are interested in going would you please send us an email here
