As a committed body of believers, we recognize that we’re not called to simply attend church; we’re called to BE the church. There are several ways to use your gifts and serve at The Avenue.
Serving at The Avenue Church
Below are several of our ministry teams at The Avenue, please let us know if you feel God leading you to serve in one of these areas.
Set up/Tear Down
Looking for a quick and easy way to get involved at The Avenue? Join our set up/tear down team! As a ‘church-on-wheels,’ we’re always looking for help to unload and reload our worship service equipment on Sunday mornings. The team is also looking for people with heavy-duty trucks and a trailer hitch who would be willing to help pull the trailer. To join the team, contact Orion Berridge.
First Impressions Team
Greeters make the first impression for the church. We’re always looking for energetic and enthusiastic people to greet Sunday morning guests. Greeters give the first ‘hello’ to the church, distribute bulletins and work the information table. The ushers serve on Sunday mornings to help the services flow. Ushers help locate seats for Sunday morning attendees, manage crowd control, meet any physical needs of attendees, and help collect the offering. This team is set up on a rotation-basis. If you’re interested in serving on the First Impression team, contact Diane Cheek.
Prayer Team
Set up on a rotation, the prayer team offers male and female support after services for anyone requesting prayer. The team also prays for specific prayer requests submitted throughout the week for the church and the congregation. To join or for questions, contact Donna Mash.
Media Team
Like working behind-the-scenes? The media team runs the visual presentation on Sunday mornings through our software, ProPresenter. You’ll help lead the congregation as you transition the song lyrics, sermon notes and announcement slides through an easy-to-use computer program. If you’re interested in joining this team, contact Jeff Class.
Sound Team
Know how to run a soundboard? Have no clue but think you can learn? The sound team helps produce each Sunday morning service. Work with the worship team to get instruments set up and help get sound and lighting in check. If you’re interested in knowing more, contact Jeff Class.
Worship Band
Play an instrument? Thought about trying out for American Idol? The worship team leads the congregation in music and singing on Sunday mornings. Be a part of a team that works together in choosing songs, arranging music and playing on stage each week. If you’re interested in knowing more about the worship team or auditioning, contact Jeff Class.
Avenue Kids
We ask ALL people committed to The Avenue to help serve our kids. We have two ways to do this:
- Serve Sundays. Each life group serves on a rotating schedule as part of Serve Sundays. When a life group has Serve Sundays, they are tasked with unloading the trailer and setting up children’s rooms, serving in the childcare rooms during 10:45am worship service, and helping pack up the rooms and reload the trailer on Sunday mornings.
- Avenue Kids Connected Teacher or Helper at 9:30. Help teach kids 5th grade and younger about Jesus! As an Avenue Kids Connected Teacher or helper, you will team-teach in a classroom and build discipling relationships with the kids. We provide the curriculum, snacks and guidance for you as a teacher. For questions or to sign up to help with Avenue Kids, contact Carrie Steller.
The Crosswalk (Avenue Student Ministry)
Love middle school and high school students? We’re always looking for more people to build relationships with our students grades 6-12. Join them on Sunday mornings at 9:30 for their life group and discipleship time. The students also have the coolest events – flag football, Halloween parties, super bowl parties, and more. To get involved in the student ministry, contact Jonathan or Malarie Tucker.
Missional Team
Have a heart for missional living? Do you get jazzed up for Mission: Ignition and often think of new ways to be a missionary to those around you? The missional team needs your help! Join this team as we brainstorm and plan for service projects throughout the year. The team meets on occasion to discuss how to communicate missional living to the church, and plan projects that put us in motion. To find out more information, contact Kady Mason.
BackSnack Team
We partner with Harvesters in Kansas City to ensure that several students at William Southern Elementary School and Glendale Elementary School in Independence, MO have food to eat throughout the weekends. As a community partner for both of these schools, Backsnack team members serve on a rotating basis to stuff backpacks and help get food into the students hands. For more information about the Backsnack team, contact Scott Simmons.
Communication
If you’re into photography, graphic design, creative thinking, writing and editing, video, websites or social media – The Avenue needs you! The communication team is always looking for more talented artists to help produce visual pieces for The Avenue. Help create artwork for announcements, sermon series, printed pieces and more. The team also brainstorms about new and creative ideas to communicate The Avenue’s heart and vision. The sky’s the limit on this team. If you’re interested in using your creative talents for The Avenue, contact Danielle Burgess.
Life Group Leaders & Host Homes
We encourage everyone committed to The Avenue to join a life group. This not only helps build relationships, but more importantly it fosters on of our highest values – community. If you feel led to host a small group at your house or are interested in leading a group, contact Danielle & Mike Burgess.
